Junior House

In the Junior House (Years 3-6), our children receive a rigorous yet rounded education. The curriculum is designed to provide them with opportunities to create, connect and collaborate both within and beyond the classroom. Children are encouraged to ask questions, take risks and think creatively. Technology is used to enhance learning across all subject areas, and sports and arts feature prominently in school life. Children continue with specialist lessons in art, music, sport, dance, French and have regular trips to our school library.

The Junior House is also the springboard for our unique 11+ programme, which starts in Year 5 and continues in Year 6. The programme is designed to prepare and support students and parents as they progress through the application process to senior schools across London and the surrounding areas. Central to the ethos of the 11+ programme, and something that you’ll see throughout Kew College Prep, is the supportive and nurturing environment, where students feel encouraged to explore, learn, and grow. Teachers and staff create a culture of positivity, where mistakes are viewed as opportunities for learning rather than sources of anxiety. Year 5 and 6 pupils are guided towards the 11+ exam and interview through specialist Maths, English and Reasoning courses, supported by experience teachers and dedicated teaching assistants who get to know each pupil and understand their strengths. Small class sizes allow teachers to provide tailored support and help each child reach their full potential, easing the stress associated with exam preparation but also allowing students to develop a genuine love for learning. After exams, children move on to topics that will prepare pupils for Year 7, such as, using a scientific calculator and more investigative work and projects, including working on a Shakespeare play.

The list of schools that our Kew College Prep pupils go on to is impressive, and staff work hand in hand with parents to advise on the best next step for each pupil, based on their unique talents.
